INDUSTRY AND ENTITY REGULATION
The Regulated Industries Division is responsible for regulating infrastructure and service sectors in Papua New Guinea under Part III of the Independent Consumer and Competition Commission Act 2002. The Treasury Minister has declared the following entities and industries for regulation.
- The Electricity Industry
- The Ports Services Industry
- Postal Services
- Third Party Motor Vehicle Insurance Premiums
- Telecommunications Industry
In particular, the Commission directly regulates the following state-owned entities that operate in the industries as outlined.
- PNG Power Limited
- PNG Ports Limited
- Post PNG Limited
- Motor Vehicle Insurance Limited
The regulatory frameworks administered by the Commission in regulating the above state owned entities and the industries in which they operate are contained within a number of pieces of legislation, industry Codes of Practice and regulatory instruments known as “regulatory contracts”.
